The annual Illumination of the Sharon Temple remains one of our most popular local events. Historically it has been held on the first Friday of September each year since 1831, its purpose was to celebrate success of the community’s harvest.

It’s an opportunity to see the Temple fully illuminated with beeswax candles lighting the entire first storey, while being treated to musical entertainment and experiencing the space as it was meant to be enjoyed.

This year we have expanded the event to include a Pig Roast, Food Trucks, Market Brewery & more starting at 4:00 PM.

Live music featuring Patrick Fockler, Glenn Marais, Bernadette Connors and The Grady Brothers. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the music.

Illumination begins at 8:00 PM featuring Christopher Dallo. Limited tickets are available to watch the event inside the Temple, others can watch on a large screen outdoors on the site.

If you cannot attend, you can join the festivities by purchasing a $5 ticket for the livestreaming event. You will receive the link via email and live streaming will start at 6:30 PM.

Please consider making a donation to the Sharon Temple. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $50 or more (please complete the charitable receipt form).

The Sharon Temple Museum has been an important part of the community for 185 years. Our programs and events help us share not only the story of the Sharon Temple and Children of Peace, but the history of the community of East Gwillimbury. With your support, we have been able to care for and maintain 10 heritage buildings, over 8000 artifacts, and create innovative and engaging programs for all ages.
