Amazing Canadian Women in History

Lianne Harris, B.A., B.F.A(Ed), T.E.S.L.

Lianne has been a history, culture and social studies resource specialist with the Toronto District School Board almost 20 years and has been the guest instructor and workshop leader for teachers across many boards in Southern Ontario. To date she has taught over 80,000 teachers and students (usually in authentic period clothing).

In 2003, she was selected by W.O.M.A.D. as one of Toronto’s Women of Influence.

Lianne is the author of many books including two medieval novels and non-fiction books on Bangladesh, India, great women in history, historical clothing and costuming, and world travel photography. She is a contributing author of the Canadian best seller business book, The Power of Women United.

Pursuing her love of art, Lianne has been an exhibiting artist at the Royal Ontario Museum, Roy Thomson Hall, The IDA Gallery, and The Shaw Festival. Appearing on TV and interviewed many times on the radio, she has been the keynote presenter at many professional, academic and organization events.

Memories of De Havilland

Tom Nettleton BASc, Diploma of the College of Aeronautics Cranfield UK, P.Eng

De Havilland was an iconic and economic superstar in North York industry. Tom Nettleton graduated from UofT in 1955 with a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering. He then completed his diploma at the College of Aeronautics in Cranfield, UK. Tom worked for De Havilland for over 40 years. Hear some of his memories of this iconic company.

1934 Kidnapping of Beer Tycoon John Labatt 

Susan Goldenberg, North York Historical Society Board Member

The author of eight non-fiction books, she has won the Canadian Author’s Award and Canadian Business Press Editors’ Award. She was Canadian bureau chief for the Dallas Morning News and has written for the Sunday New York Times, the Financial Post, the Financial Times of Canada and The Beaver. Susan is currently writing for local online media. She is a member of the Board for the North York Historical Society. She will be speaking about the 1934 kidnapping of Ontario beer tycoon John Labatt.
