Herb Carnegie – Community Builder
Feb 16 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Herb Carnegie – an exceptional man and a community builder in the history of North York. His skills as a hockey player never got him to the NHL because of racist policies against Blacks. After a successful career in the industrial leagues, he went on to set up a hockey school, have a successful career as a financial consultant and win several amateur golf championships at both the Ontario and Canada level. All of these achievements were based on a strong sense of good sportsmanship and fair play which Herb Carnegie set down in a document called the Future Aces Creed. This document has been signed by over 1 million school children as part of their sports participation.

This presentation will examine the life of Herb Carnegie with special emphasis on the Future Aces Creed and the direction that is put forward for youth in that document. Below is Herb Carnegie as Honorary Police Chief.

April 2022 Meeting: Yonge Street in the Rear View Mirror - Encore @ online by Zoom

The NYHS is pleased to present “Yonge Street in the Rear View Mirror – Encore.”

In March 2021, NYHS presented Marla Weingarten with ‘Yonge Street in the Rear-view Mirror’, which proved to be the most popular program in many years. This year as we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the formation of North York, we are returning to Yonge Street and Marla Weingarten, for an encore presentation of the history of Yonge Street in North York.

Yonge Street is the most iconic street in Canada. This famous artery has weaved a tapestry of history along its path for over 200 years. The North York Historical Society is pleased to bring you “Yonge Street in the Rear View Mirror – Encore.” A journey along the path from dirt to gravel, from horses to cars, to discover the many hidden stories of Yonge Street’s past and how life along this thoroughfare shaped North York through the years, transforming it to the township, borough, city and part of the megacity of Toronto that it is today.

When: Wednesday April 20, 2022, at 7:00 PM Eastern Time

Presenter: Marla Weingarten, North York Historical Society
