McQUILLAN, ELIZABETH JEAN (nee Jackson) “Betty” On November 30, 2024, Betty McQuillan died peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Born in Toronto, Ontario, in December 1930 to George C. Jackson and Florence Rowntree, Betty grew up on Lonelm Holstein Dairy Farm in Elia, North York. Betty taught at Downsview Public School until her marriage in 1954 to Robert “Bob” McQuillan. She enjoyed a long and happy marriage with Bob. Bob and Betty raised their children, Jane, Ian (Leslie) and Nancy in Willowdale. Nancy’s daughter, Anita, is the only grandchild. Betty’s interests included genealogy and local history, co-authoring books on the Rowntree family, George C. Jackson and Elia Remembered. She was a skilled seamstress, quilter, knitter, baker, canner and gardener. Bob and Betty enjoyed Scottish country dancing together. Betty and Bob were active members of Newtonbrook United Church. Betty was involved in the reading group and the quilting group which completed over 220 quilts. Betty is survived by sister, Ann; brother, Douglas (Marg) Jackson; and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, George. Heartfelt thanks to caregivers, Carla, Paula, Victoria and Christine, Nurse Manu, and all the Home Care providers, the Sinai Health Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, Dr. Seto and the staff at Canterbury Place.
