In keeping with the Doors Open Toronto theme of Hidden Histories, the NYHS led three tours over the weekend of May 25-26. Despite mixed weather conditions, the event saw a good turnout, with history enthusiasts braving the elements to explore the rich past of Hoggs Hollow in the Old Yonge Street area.

Marla Weingarten’s research and development of the route ensured that participants received a thorough overview of the area’s historical significance. She was assisted by Doors Open Toronto volunteers and Karen Hanson, a NYHS member.

Key stops along the route included the Miller Tavern, St Johns Anglican church, C.W. Jefferys house, and a stop near York Mills Station to speak about the Hoggs Hollow disaster.

The success of these tours highlights the community’s interest in uncovering and preserving local history. The NYHS is grateful for the support and participation and looks forward to hosting similar events in the future.
