I was very pleased to attend the official opening of the North York History Room at the North York Central Library on October 30. The Room has been named for Gladys Allison, who was instrumental in establishing library services in North York and was the first chair of the Library Board. The event was hosted by Kim Huntley, Branch Manager. Sarah Jafari, from Councilor Lily Cheng’s office spoke and Erin Anderson, Manager of Departments spoke about Gladys Allison and her contributions to the Library system in North York. Lynn Gardiner, the granddaughter of Gladys Allison, also spoke about her grandmother. She came from Milwaukee for the occasion. She mentioned that her eldest aunt, who is 99 and lives in Calgary,  was very pleased to hear about the naming of the room. She was planning to fly to Calgary to tell her about the opening. She also stated that she has Gladys’ typewriter and plans to donate to the room.
