NYHS Wins OHS Scadding Award

NYHS Recognized with Provincial Heritage Award

The North York Historical Society has been awarded the Ontario Historical Society’s 2014 Scadding Award of Excellence, which recognizes a historical society or heritage group that has made an outstanding contribution to the field of history.

Throughout its history of serving the community, the all-volunteer historical society has advocated for the preservation, restoration, and adaptive re-use of countless heritage assets in North York, including the Gibson House Museum, David Duncan House, Dempsey Store, Elihu Pease House, O’Connor House, the Miller Tavern, and the Ontario Historical Society’s own headquarters, the John McKenzie House.

The activities and programmes of the NYHS are extensive, and evidence the dedication and hard work put forth by its volunteers every year. The NYHS has provided educational opportunities through public art exhibitions, historical walking tours, heritage speakers events, and an impressive list of publications.
