Mel Lastman was mayor of North York for 24 years. His impact on the city was huge. 

DAVID NICKLE will speak on the impact of Mel Lastman on North York and on the megacity of Toronto after amalgamation in 1998

He was a long-time political journalist, covering Toronto City Politics out of Toronto Community News’ City Hall Bureau. He is also a published author, with several novels and a collection of stories (Monstrous Affections, 2009) in print.

He will be focusing on the parts of Mel Lastman’s life with which he is most familiar, which is to say from around 1990 to 2003, but he will provide some perspective on earlier times too.
